The standard modern biography on the subject, Beethoven was first published in 1977 and revised in 1998. This paperback edition was first published in 2001 but the initial and subsequent printings have sold out very quickly!

Author Maynard Solomon has been a three-time winner of the ASCAP-Deems Taylor Award, a visiting professor at Columbia, Harvard and Yale, on the graduate faculty of Juilliard, and a scholarly adviser to the Beethoven Archive in Bonn. The revised edition of his classic biography includes new information unearthed in recent years, and also revised information from sources recently discredited. As he writes in the introduction to the revised edition, "A biographer's understanding is always imperfect, in process, ongoing."

Note: This is a special order product with a two week delivery time This beautiful edition is illustrated throughout with b/w and colour pictures; it includes a full index of Beethoven's compositions, extensive footnotes, and a well-researched bibliography worth the price of admission alone!
